MAGA people are silly – even stupid.  But Trump isn’t

I read a lot in the news about what Donald Trump is doing, has done and will do.  About what is the best way to handle him and how good a deal can other countries get from him.  Then there are those denigrating articles and criticisms all across the left leaning and liberal press.  None of this makes a tiny bit of difference to Trump does it?  He does not care what people think of him.  He is a narcissist and therefore to him, everyone thinks he is as great as he thinks himself to be.  Criticism and disagreement do not affect his persona, but they do affect his behaviour.  He is vindictive, bullying and incapable of even seeing that he talks absolute garbage.  He does not see that he is causing chaos across the western world because he is doing what he wanted to do and doing it very well.  He is consolidating his power and making phenomenal amounts of corrupt money because he is using his Presidency for personal gain.  He has no interest in a liberal morality based on honesty and freedom of individuals.  He believes in Trump, hanging on to power and making money.

Whatever happens at the next election in the USA, if Trump is not dead or gaga or incarcerated I strongly suspect that he will be making sure that he is keeping a firm hand on the levers of power.  Five years ago, in an earlier blog about Trump I said that the USA’s constitution was at risk.  This year I am saying that they will need a whole raft of amendments if the US is to become a liberal Western democracy again.  Sadly I think that the mess Trump will leave (if he ever does leave) will be an open invitation for someone with a similar or even worse attitude to democratic government.  To imagine that the US Supreme Court could give Trump the same (actually stronger) powers than the Pope with his Papal Infallibility on dogma was inconceivable.  But it has happened.  He can and will get away with anything and everything he wants to do because he cannot break the Law.

The USA needs a stronger constitution and really needs a less politicised judiciary.  It would also do well to create a better structure for its civil service and Parliamentary democracy.  A good start might be to make a limit on the number of and allowable budget value on all Executive orders a president can use to by – pass Congress.  Does the USA still have Congress?  There is more effective opposition in Putin’s Russia I think.  And the supine and toadying Republican Party has far less excuse for not  slowing Trump  down at least than anyone in Russia has for letting Putin do what he does.
